Common questions

Find answers to common questions about solar energy and services.

What is the federal solar tax credit?

The Federal Solar Tax Credit (Actually called the Investment Tax Credit, or ITC) is an incentive that allows you to claim a tax credit for 30% of the total cost of installing your solar power system. If the credit exceeds your total tax bill, your taxes for that year will be completely eliminated, and the remaining credit can be applied to future tax bills. To take advantage of this incentive we provide a partially completed IRS Form 5695 which you submit with your federal tax return.

Does Solarsimple offer financing?

Absolutely – using lenders with competitive rates is one of the most crucial steps in making financed solar lucrative. We work with several lenders to offer customers a variety of low-cost and zero-down options.

What is net metering?

Net metering is a stipulation that requires utility companies to give you credit for any excess electricity your system produces. For example, a home that consumes 30 kWhs of grid electricity during the night, and produces an excess of 30 kWhs of solar electricity during the day would register as having used no grid electricity at all. The value of net excess generation over a billing cycle can be applied to future months.

Should I get critter guard to protect my system?

Squirrels rarely mess with solar systems unless they are close to the woods or there are nearby trees or shrubs that offer easy access to the roof. If your house has nearby branches, overhead powerlines, or other means of access, critter guard can help protect it from un-warrantied shingle and wire damage. If squirrels have easy access to your roof, or you are aware of squirrel activity on your roof, you should consider critter guard.
